Well, we’re three weeks into 2017. 2016 was a year of reckoning for my personal and professional life. Clearly I haven’t posted in a long time. I’m still freelancing, and business is better than it had been for the first half of 2016 but I’ve narrowed my focus quite a bit. Here’s a look at what happened.
Total recorded income for 2016: $22,541.00
Over the course of year, thanks mostly in part to the Shopify Partner Studio, and the addition of a few long term clients, things started to improve drastically for my business. I have steady work from 3-4 clients, most of which aren’t Shopify related.
I’ve shifted focus to backend work and have more fun that way. My consistent flow of work enabled me to stopped pursuing new clients when things got increasingly difficult in my persona life, but I’m sure I could now that I’m back to a more normal routine. In another reality, I probably could have earned twice as much this year.
So in light of everything, I’ve decided that 2017 is going to be the year that 2016 was supposed to be. This spring I plan to move to Portland, OR. This blog is going to be fully revived, off life- support. I plan on ditching Be a Freelance VIP as a standalone course and converting it to a series of short e-books hyper focused on different aspects of freelancing and web development.
Finishing and publishing my shopify Custom Fields app is a major priority, along with building two additional apps for sale in the Shopify app store. Building personal projects that I can eventually monetize is a major part of my 2017 strategy. One of these projects a social book club web app I’m building a close friend. We’re hoping to launch in February. Hopefully, I can do a few more guest posts spots in different big blogs again this year.
Also on the table is the Artificial Intelligence Micromasters program through edX and I’m excited to see if I can find ways to utilize these new skills in my career. Classes began last week!
I’m still recovering from the heartache of the past year and just gearing up into work again, but I know that 2017 is going to be a great year with tremendous opportunity available to me. Ideally I’ll reduce my client workload and increase my passive income sources. I’m very much looking forward to having the time and energy again to focus on those types of endeavors. I’m hoping to round out the year with around $50K in income - may not sound like much, but my expenses are low and I really want to spend my time enjoying myself rather than working and hustling 24/7.
I know I’ve been gone, but now I’m back and excited to be involved with all of who you are still around.
